5.9 Billion in covid relief funds stolen.

US Law enforcement has been on a tear recently. Targeting cyber criminals both at home and abroad. This recent surge in law enforcement activities may feel like a net positive (and it IS positive) but I want to iterate very carefully that the increased publicity around the efforts is largely as a result of the severe economic impact of the breaches just over the last 6 to 9 months.

Again, I fully support the efforts of those hard working individuals in these agencies doing great work investigating and prosecuting these cases.

I just think it worth pointing out that (having worked in government) when things start to go very publicly wrong...think Change Healthcare, Henry Schein, ATT, JP Morgan Chase etc... then certain people in positions of power start leaning on teams for results. It is the oldest story of PR in power.

My sincere hope is that we are not pushing for publicity and squandering deeper and longer term solutions that these agencies may be working on with intensity. An arrest is great for the news...subverting an operation from the inside and then using those compromised individuals to drag a larger net is better.

food for thought

Harden the target, stay vigilant!
