Kyle Hanslovan CEO of Huntress speaks eloquently about the challenges presented by the Change Healthcare breach and the lessons learned industry wide.
For me the KEY takeaway is this:
AI has created a massive spike in breaches for one simple reason, hackers are utilizing the technology to elevate their teams. These criminal organizations are increasing the sophistication of their attacks and drastically increasing their volume and speed by utilizing this new technology (AI). Why is this problematic other than the obvious sophistication and volume increase? Kyle explains that businesses, healthcare specifically are notorious for being slow adopters of new technology and dragging their feet on adaptation. This is a moment in time where being slow can literally invite disaster.
What does this mean for the SMB who is hearing all this noise but unsure how to respond if they are not a mid market global enterprise? It means that the days of #itwonthappentome are over. Downloading some out of the box antivirus and slapping it on most of the computers in your business and hoping your "safe" is not going to cut it. If reading that immediately prompts the response "well what am I supposed to do Ross?" then you're asking the right question.
-Hire a mature company with experience providing multilayered, evidenced and compliance based security.
-If the company offers cyber security training for your team then lean in to it. -Ensure you have appropriate cyber liability coverage for your dataset and revenue.
Harden the target, stay vigilant!
