Details are still to come but initial reports are clear:
This attack HAS impacted patient care, clinical operations, and EMS receiving.
This WILL NOT stop, these attacks are going to accelerate in frequency and severity until we reach an equilibrium or a breaking point.
Let's talk about equilibrium:
noun
a state in which opposing forces or influences are balanced.
In any combative scenario (which make no mistake, these cyber attacks are combative...patient care is life and death) you only reach equilibrium IF both sides are capable of effective combat. What does effective combat look like in cyber security? Well trained, vigilant staff and administrators treating information security with the same deference as sterilization protocols. Robust and reliable security software and hardware, installed, maintained and tested by hardened professionals and a community of independent red teams, pen testers and auditor's keeping everyone and everything tip top.
Doesn't that sound like a lot of work? Of course it does, but it is past time to mature our relationship with this subject. Our data and it's infrastructure ARE critical, and we MUST protect them at all costs.
Let's get serious about hardening the target, staying vigilant and let's all abandon team #itwonthappentome
Harden the Target, stay Vigilant!
