An SEC filing by Krispy Kreme reveals they have been dealing with a cyber security incident since November. Online ordering has been impacted and details regarding any other concerns are most likely forthcoming.
I know I share these articles often and the tone is predictable. Something along the lines of "companies are going to have to wake up to this threat" so on and so forth. However, I am in a joyous spirit as it is the season, and I do find the silver lining in this story to be encouraging.
Krispy Kreme has Cyber Liability Insurance....and they say so with confidence. Why do I find this lining so silvery??? Well, I have shared dozens of these stories over the last year and I don't recall one time that a company indicated that they carried cyber liability. Yet, before this short BBC article concludes there is time to highlight that the SEC filing discloses Krispy Kreme carries insurance for cyber incidents.
I find that encouraging.
Good for them, I don't know the full story, I have only read the details I have been able to find online from various news outlets and blogs but that one little line is awesome.
Well done Krispy Kreme for stepping into the modern era. Anyone can get breached. No one worth listening to would say otherwise. Having a plan and strategy in place is a solid display of leadership.
