Major US Telecoms breached in widespread attack.
I have written several post this year about telecom breaches and have know this was a widespread issues for quite some time. I wanted to draw attention to this story today because there are some details of note that everyone should be aware of.
The PRC (Peoples Republic of China) is implicated in a wide spread campaign to infiltrate the major us communications companies and networks for obvious reasons. However, with this story we now understand some of the more nuanced motivations for the targeting. If you read between the lines and check various sources on this story you will discover that US Federal Wiretapping protocols and functionalities were compromised along with the records and possible live communication data from several US government officials.
Par for the course? Somewhat.
I would like to iterate a few things very carefully for your consideration. AT&T operates a service known as FirstNet for the first responder services. This functionality is designed to allow clear and open communication for law enforcement and medical personnel during crisis situations even in the event of widespread telecom outages. I am UNCOMFORTABLE with the targeting and breaching of US telecoms especially as it relates to the potential for services like FirstNet being unavailable during a disaster....
Does it sound like fear mongering? Maybe...
Unfortunately in my field you are constantly faced with the "bad day" scenarios and you cannot help but read threat into things.
I would prefer to be informed and prepared in either case. Hopefully you leave my post with value in that respect (information/understanding) each time you stop and read.
