Perceived Threat is something I talk about quite a bit during my Security Awareness training classes. Human beings are very adept at conceptualizing threat within our physical space or even beyond that immediate parameter and extending to physical threat to other people or locations (loved ones, workplace etc...). We are NOT yet however organically comfortable with the concept of threat from the digital realm. Having briefed, taught, and serviced this space for 15 years I have become acutely aware of the difficulty in articulating the very REAL danger involved in cyber crime/terrorism and furthermore the difficulty in eliciting an emotional response strong enough from the audience to induce action or create fear (which is a good thing folks).
Yes, healthy fear is a natural defense mechanism and keeps us safe from many things. We have not yet as a species cultivated a healthy fear of cyber attack.
Make no mistake, I am AFRAID of what could happen.
Cell coverage drops.
Internet is down.
Power grid fails.
Water systems grind to a trickle.
Tick tock......tick tock.......how long can you and your family last?
What about your business?
Whom do you imagine is coming to save you?
Tick Tock..
Food For thought, happy Wednesday 🙂
