Several times this year I have referenced state actors specifically targeting US infrastructure or businesses. This is something that you may hear quite often depending on your news cycle habits, but it may not be obvious why it matters or how much it matters.

To write about a criminal cyber crime group that wreaks havoc and plunders enterprise is one thing, and fairly easy to understand. Whether their motivations are purely economical or even tinged with political ideology most people can conceptualize the behavior. However, when we hear that China, North Korea, or Russia are targeting the power grid or water systems etc..what are we supposed to think? How are we supposed to come to terms with this information? What if they succeed? If Russia succeeds in shutting down a large portion of the US communications network by crippling Verizon and ATT for 17 days...what do we do? What are the consequences? Is this an act of war?

Is this an act of War?

Does it make you uncomfortable to read that line? Does it make you uncomfortable to think about the possibilities if it is considered an act of War?

It should.

Unfortunately this is the reality you are living in at this very moment whether you choose to acknowledge it or not.

Why did I begin my morning with this melodrama? Well here's this:
Harden the Target, Stay Vigilant!
