Did you come in to work this morning and your computer would not boot up?
Millions of users worldwide are in the same situation this morning as Wallstreet darling and powerhouse cyber security software company Crowdstrike is having a very tough Friday.
I have nothing but empathy for the team at CS this morning, period.
Initial reports indicate that this issue is being caused by a misconfigured update to the crowdstrike software that causes Windows machines to slip into BSOD issues. Since Crowdstrike is deployed on millions of machines at critical companies worldwide the outage is being reported as the largest in history.
CS support has listed a workaround for affected machines on their Reddit:
Which is great news. However, at this time the workaround does appear to be manual and require a technician to physically work on a single machine at a time. The implications are staggering....
If you find yourself impacted this morning I am truly sorry. You can take some comfort in knowing that (as far as we know) this outage is technical in nature and NOT related to an attack.
Harden the Target, stay Vigilant!
