Deja Vu?
No, unfortunately CDK Global which we just highlighted earlier this week has experienced another attack and further delays in bringing core functionality back online for their more than 15,000 auto dealership clients nationwide.
I wanted to take this opportunity to focus on a common reality that we see far to often in the SMB space.
NO Incident Response Plan
Believe me, I know. One more thing to do. One more painfully arduous, definitely outside of normal expertise and comfort zone "task" to wrestle with. My empathy is not sarcastic, it is genuine. I know that the modern entrepreneur is faced with incredibly complex and constantly evolving economic and liability landscapes, and one more thing to do can seem like just that, another item on the mountain of to-do's.
However, like good insurance, even a simple IRP that you articulate to the team, table top at least once a year and update each time you table top can make a huge difference in your businesses ability to weather a storm.

Work through the realities with your team. What is critical within our daily battle rhythm? What can we do without? What can we pivot to if the need arises? How can we still deliver if we lose X,Y,Z?
Even the conversation can prevent panic at the moment of friction. Remember those fire drills in grade school? They happen for a reason, simple plans, practiced often make high stress scenarios survivable.
Harden the target, stay vigilant!
