Details are a little hazy on this one. Sources are releasing different information and sometimes it is contradictory. However, there are a few clear truths:

This is a MASSIVE breach.

TicketMaster as of the writing of this post has not yet responded to the breach accusation.

Key takeaway:

This breach is the latest in a string of massive consumer information leaks. Why is this important? The information that is flooding the dark web and being purchased/weaponized by the criminal underworld includes names, addresses, phone numbers, credit cards/bank accounts, social security numbers, purchase histories, health information.....it is too much. These details make fraud, targeted phishing, mail/voice/credit/bank scams hyper effective. When it comes to creating an effective targeted fraud attempt the details are everything. Details make the scam convincing and the details that are now available for large numbers of US citizens are astounding.

We have seen just in the last few weeks a large uptick in targeted email scams nearly costing 10s of thousands of dollars because threat actors are able to convincingly impersonate trusted individuals (think Doctor and CPA having a conversation...but one of them is a criminal and the other doesn't know).

These scams and others like it will be rampant this year. The data that has been leaked makes it too easy for criminals not too aggressively weaponize the opportunity.

Nearly every American has been affected by one of these recent massive breaches, which means we ALL need to be aware, and take extra care for the foreseeable future to prevent fraud or scams in our personal and professional lives.

Harden the target, stay vigilant!
