This morning I am not going to share the latest Cyber attack or security strategy. I want to share a brief thought about AI.
Like may of you I have begun to explore the benefits of utilizing these powerful tools for productivity and efficiency in many areas of my personal and professional life. I have been impressed with the capabilities of the tools and the flexibility with which they may be employed. Because of the industry I occupy I am privy to a plethora of opinions about the implications of AI on security, the job market, programming, web design, emotional intelligence, communication skills, medical research.....you get the picture. Everyone in the tech world has an opinion on what is coming next, good, bad or indifferent (although almost no one is indifferent).
My own opinion (admittedly in its infancy) is this:
We humans have been scratching a life off the surface of this rock for half a million years (give or take) in our current form. During this time we have struggled fundamentally with the need (like all creatures) to survive and the overwhelming effort that goes into just staying alive. However, we are also creatures who are miraculously self aware, we wonder at the universe around us and our place in it. We as a species grapple with time, space, and the afterlife. We are artist, musicians, poets, authors, engineers, doctors, lawyers, athletes, technicians, chef's, astronauts, sailors, farmers, and everything in between. Even though we are stuck (for the time being) on the same rock as all of our co-habitants we have heroically struggled to not only survive but thrive during our short lives. We are driven to explore, to create, to dream and dance....and that is my hope (perhaps a fools hope).
My hope for a world with AI is that we utilize the power to give ourselves more time to be unabashedly human. I hope each of us sees the time we gain back by utilizing the power of AI and instead of wasting those precious minutes we aggressively use them for good. We are more creative, more loving, more kind, more curious, more passionate, more awake...more alive.
I hope this for humanity, but it will take each of us deciding on our own. We could be on the verge of an extraordinary chapter in our story and I hope we write it well.

That's all for today.
