I have been a member of the TMT community for more than a decade and when the opportunity to share to my peers presented itself I knew I had too.
I spoke for 12 minutes on the big stage with 300+ watching, and I spoke about mental health. I went to a sophisticated technical conference with business owners running multi-million dollar companies and I spent 12 minutes being vulnerable, and honestly being terrified I was making a fool of myself. However, the moment I stepped off that stage I had people approaching me from the audience thanking me for sharing. For the rest of the weekend I had individuals find me in quiet moments and share their stories and there struggles. They were grateful, they felt seen, heard, and not so alone. This was incredibly encouraging for me. I had agonized about the presentation for weeks. I knew that all I wanted was for one person to hear what I was sharing and receive hope, solidarity or connection.
In the moments following and the days after I was validated, time and again. All of us, everyone reading this post and everyone in your circle of influence has a story. Especially in business, we are surrounded by human beings in pain, and sometimes the best thing we can do as human beings is simply share our humanity. Remind those we lead and those we look up to that we are all powerful and broken, and that is OK.
Today's post is a little off the beaten path, but I wanted to share with my community. Wherever you are today, whatever your story is, you are not alone.
