In a somewhat predictable move the FCC has ORDERED (isn't that cute) US telecoms to "Secure the Networks" following the revelations about last years Salt Typhoon breaches.
If you are a little hazy on the details Salt Typhoon was/is a Chinese sponsored/operated/funded/orchestrated/sanctioned cyber attack group....whatever descriptor you choose (the Chinese) government is/will deny it so it really isn't important. They (Salt Typhoon) gained access to major US telecoms over what appears to be many years and eventually (and probably for quite some time) were able to read text messages and listen to calls within those impacted networks. This really became a news cycle issue when the US Presidential election was in full swing as both parties candidates were targeted by the group.
Now back to present day.
The FCC has now ordered these impacted telecoms to secure their networks. Which one would hope is an obvious necessity. Now what is interesting here is that if you read my previous post on this issue the telecoms were breached BECAUSE of vulnerabilities built in to these telecoms that are required by LAW for the purposes of combating terrorism....
So...
Do I think it is a bit ironic for the government that asked you to leave your door open in case they need to sneak in late at night NOW has the gall to decry you leaving your door open?
Yes, I find that ironic.
