As you read stories like the one below you must sit quietly and ask your self several hard questions.

Is AI and the hardware associated "critical to national security"?

If so...

Then much like nuclear technology, should we aggressively control the export of the intellectual discoveries and physical components required for advancement?

Does doing so actually ensure that no one will ill intentions will get their hands on and be able to build capabilities that are harmful to mankind?

These are big, complex, nuanced questions. The nuclear technologies of the 20th century were a debacle to say the very least. We handled none of it well and in my opinion made every mistake possible as stewards of the discovery. Are we poised to go down the same road again? Shrouding the AI models in secrecy, isolating the most advanced possibilities and functions in obscure government organizations and military contracts? I sincerely hope not.
